SUMMARY:Two Apple Farm - Organic Apple Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Chris and Juli McGuire of Two Onion Farm will give a tour of their orchard and packing shed and discuss variety selection\, growing methods\, pest control\, post-harvest handling\, and marketing. \nThey will also focus on an on-farm research project: they raised over 600 grafted apple trees inside a hoophouse and evaluated two organic methods for developing branches (“feathers”) in the nursery trees. Feathered planting stock is an essential part of modern high-density apple training systems but it is difficult or impossible to purchase organically grown feathered trees. \nTo read more about this event\, you can visit their website:  http://www.twoonionfarm.com/index.php/about-us/research/organic-apple-field-day \n

SUMMARY:Women Caring for the Land Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Rachel Anderson’s mission is to farm efficiently and sustainably profitable at low environmental impact. This 1500-acre farm utilizes no-till\, strip-till\, GNSS-based application\, advanced cover crop systems\, and water quality monitoring. Additionally\, they maintain refuge for wildlife through wetland\, prairie\, and oak savanna restorations. Rachel and her mother Pamela are starting a new adventure on the farm with a brand-new cut-flower business. \nThis event is part of a series of Women Caring for the Land workshops\, which are organized by the Wisconsin Farmers Union in partnership with Pheasants Forever. These events are geared toward women farmers or landowners who are interested in learning more about conservation. Each session includes a potluck lunch\, networking and an afternoon tour of the host farm. \nSee the flyer for more information about these events.
