Chris and Juli McGuire of Two Onion Farm will give a tour of their orchard and packing shed and discuss variety selection, growing methods, pest control, post-harvest handling, and marketing.

They will also focus on an on-farm research project: they raised over 600 grafted apple trees inside a hoophouse and evaluated two organic methods for developing branches (“feathers”) in the nursery trees. Feathered planting stock is an essential part of modern high-density apple training systems but it is difficult or impossible to purchase organically grown feathered trees.
