New Frost/Freeze Forecast Tool Now Available for Wisconsin Fruit Growers
The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office has launched an experimental Frost & Freeze Decision Support tool designed to help Wisconsin fruit growers anticipate and respond to frost risks during the growing season.
This tool provides daily maps showing the probability of temperatures falling below critical thresholds (36°F, 32°F, 30°F, and 28°F) over the next seven days. It incorporates forecasted low temperatures and wind speeds (≤5 mph and ≤7 mph) to assess the likelihood of frost development. The maps are updated twice daily, around 7 AM and 7 PM CDT, from March through October.
Fruit growers can use this resource to make informed decisions about frost protection measures, such as activating irrigation systems or deploying frost blankets, to safeguard their crops.
